First Femur Band Shoot
by Gareth Jones; outside shots taken in Cape Town and inside images were taken in Alexander Bar, a quaint bar, cafe and theatre (now closed) previously located in Strand Street, Cape Town.
Shadow the Sun – Recording
Sound & Motion; the songs “It Burns”, “Mambo”, “Missing you, Again” & “Sell my Soul” were recorded in full at Sound & Motion. We tracked live in the main room to capture the drum performance and then did overdubs for vocals, and where necessary, for other instruments.
Spatial Dimension “Studios”; We needed a space to record the drums for “Empire”, “Despot”, “Hunt me Down” & “Ride the Lion”, and the second floor of the building Phil worked in was not being utilised by the company (called “Spatial Dimension”) he was working for at the time. We asked if we could use it for a weekend or two. Phil tracked drums to a vocal guitar and scratch track.
Kill City Blues; (now luvbuzz) Guitars & Backing Vocals for “Empire”, “Despot”, “Hunt me Down” & “Ride the Lion” were tracked at Kill City, the spot where we used to practice until 2019. Bass for these tracks were recorded at Nic Roos’ flat (at the time) in Rondebosch.
